Washington, D.C. - The Self-Driving Coalition issued the following statement after NHTSA released crash data from the first quarter of 2021 showing a dramatic spike in motor vehicle fatalities:

“Today’s NHTSA crash report is a sobering reminder of why the autonomous vehicles (AV) industry is dedicated to this lifesaving technology. AVs, which are designed to operate without human drivers, do not speed, become impaired or get distracted. The Self-Driving Coalition and its members stand ready to work with NHTSA to support the development and expansion of AVs in pursuit of safer American roads and highways," said Ariel Wolf, general counsel.
