Washington -- The Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets released the following statement from general counsel David Strickland in response to the introduction of the AV START Act:

“We thank Senators Thune and Peters for their recognition of self-driving's safety and mobility benefits, and we are glad to see the Senate Commerce Committee moving forward on legislation. Federal self-driving legislation is necessary to support testing and deployment of the technology across the country. The Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets is encouraged by the AV START Act's provisions for a national framework for vehicle safety, and we hope to work with the Senate Commerce Committee to ensure that such a framework applies to all types of motor vehicles.”
