WASHINGTON – Today, the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association released this statement following the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) adoption of the world’s first regulatory framework for fully driverless Automated Driving Systems (ADS).
“The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association commends the U.S. Department of Transportation for its strong leadership during the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s 25th GRVA session. Due to USDOT’s engagement, the technical frameworks for the new UN Regulation and UN Global Technical Regulation (GTR) on automated driving moved in a positive direction for autonomous vehicle innovators and is in line with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s Automated Vehicle Framework.
“AVIA looks forward to further activity from USDOT going forward, including promulgating performance standards and addressing design standards that will facilitate American leadership in autonomous vehicles.”
