Washington – Today, the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association (AVIA) called on Colorado Governor Jared Polis to veto HB 26-1286, legislation that would effectively ban autonomous trucking in the state.
"Coloradans deserve safer roads, a strong economy, and more resilient supply chains. Autonomous trucks deliver on all three. HB 26-1286 would reverse nearly a decade of smart, balanced policymaking and make Colorado a national outlier at the exact moment other states are leaning in on autonomous vehicles,” said AVIA CEO Jeff Farrah. "AVIA respectfully urges Governor Polis to veto this bill and keep Colorado open for the kind of innovation that saves lives and strengthens American competitiveness."
HB 26-1286 would require a human observer in autonomous commercial motor vehicles over 26,000 lbs. operating in Colorado, effectively prohibiting autonomous trucking in the state.
