PlusAI is developing SuperDrive™, a Level 4 autonomous driving system for Class 8 trucks. It enables trucks to operate autonomously.

What’s an example of a challenge your company is trying to solve for?
Most of what we eat and use every day is transported by trucks. While freight demand keeps growing, the trucking industry faces a chronic driver shortage, with over 300,000 positions unfilled across the US and Europe.
PlusAI is tackling this by developing AI-driven autonomy for hub-to-hub transport. Our OEM-led model means our cutting-edge SuperDrive™ virtual driver is engineered into the truck at the factory and supported by established sales and maintenance networks. The result? Safe and scalable deployment of autonomous trucks that will provide more efficient transport for shippers and carriers and better quality of life for professional drivers, who can take more local routes and be home more nights.
Why is the work of your company important?
Over 40,000 people die every year on America’s roadways, and countless more are injured in automobile accidents. Close to 5,000 of these deaths involved a commercial vehicle. In addition to helping to solve the economic challenges facing the trucking industry, PlusAI’s work is important because we know that autonomy will improve safety on the roads.
As one of the most consequential applications of AI in the physical world, autonomous trucks can make long-haul trucking safer. Our PlusAI SuperDriveTM virtual driver does not get tired or distracted. It always follows the rules of the road. The lidars, radar and cameras equipped on our autonomous trucks have a superhuman 360-degree real-time view of its surroundings.
These advances will lead to safer roads.
What policy solutions are most important for your company?
To unlock the benefits of autonomous freight, we need a clear, national standard for safe deployment. Today, companies are successfully navigating the patchwork of state rules, but a federal framework that establishes national safety guardrails would facilitate greater innovation, provide certainty to fleets operating interstate and increase public acceptance of autonomous vehicles.
We also support modernizing commercial driver and operational rules to reflect the new roles created by autonomy and the safety innovations of autonomous vehicles.
